All-Optical Interrogation of Neural Circuits

Understanding how patterns of electrical signals within the brain give rise to complex behavior, necessitates the ability to simultaneously record the activity of individual neurons and also manipulate the activity using optogenetic methods. I am developing novel all-optical approaches for reading and writing neural activity at entirely new spatio-temporal scales, using a combination of high-speed holography, genetically encoded voltage indicators and optogenetics.
